Pieter Olivier

Pieter Olivier is a photographic artist based in Cape Town, South Africa. His work centres on the meeting of stone and sea along the Cape coast — places where time is measured in tides and in ages.

Working with long exposures, he reduces the restless ocean to a soft, even field, so that the rock becomes the quiet subject: weathered, patient and unhurried.

Statement

Before Time, his first body of work, is an invitation to slow down — to stand before forms older than memory and look for a while longer than is comfortable.
